TEMPE, AZ — The 2022 Arizona State Sun Devils season was one of the most turbulent in recent program history. Head coach Herm Edwards was fired three games in, and interim Shaun Aguano guided the team to a 3–9 final record (1–7 Pac-12). Amid the chaos, Damon Williamson (#38) did exactly what he came to Tempe to do: compete.
Williamson appeared in 3 games for the Sun Devils during the 2022 campaign — earning Pac-12 game experience that only a handful of walk-on defensive backs nationwide can claim. Every snap in a Power Five conference game against scholarship athletes is earned. For Dame 38, each one was proof of concept.
2022 Season — Arizona State
| Games Played | Position | Jersey | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | Safety / DB | #38 | Walk-on |
Despite the team's struggles — their worst record since 1946 — Williamson kept his head down and worked. The offseason ahead would bring coaching changes under new head coach Kenny Dillingham, giving Williamson a fresh start heading into 2023.
The grind continues. Dame 38 isn't done in Tempe.
