WEST VALLEY CITY, UT — The Utah Great 8s opened their home slate at the Maverik Center on April 29, 2026, and defensive back Damon Williamson — Dame 22 — was right in the middle of the action.
Williamson recorded 2 tackles in the contest, continuing to establish himself in the Great 8s' defensive backfield during the International Arena League's historic inaugural season. The indoor game is fast, physical, and played on a shortened field — requiring defensive backs to be decisive, athletic, and excellent in tight spaces. Dame 22 looked right at home.
| Stat | Total |
|---|---|
| Tackles | 2 |
| Position | Defensive Back (#22) |
| Venue | Maverik Center — West Valley City, UT |

The indoor game demands instant recognition and fast processing — qualities Williamson has spent years developing across four programs. In the IAL's compact arena format, every defensive snap is a battle in tight quarters, and Dame 22 is built for exactly that kind of physical, high-intensity football.

TEMPE, AZ — Damon Williamson capped his two-year run at Arizona State with his strongest showing yet, appearing in 4 games for the Sun Devils during the 2023 Pac-12 campaign under first-year head coach Kenny Dillingham.
The 2023 Sun Devils went 3–9 (2–7 Pac-12) in what would be the program's final year as a Pac-12 member before moving to the Big 12. It was also a season where Williamson's consistent professionalism in practice paid dividends on game days — four appearances as a walk-on safety/DB in a Power Five conference is a résumé line that speaks for itself.
| Games Played | Position | Jersey | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Safety / DB | #38 | Walk-on |
| Total Games | Conference | Degree Earned |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | Pac-12 | B.S. in Communication — Arizona State University |
Beyond the field, Williamson graduates from ASU with a Bachelor of Science in Communication — proof that his investment in Tempe went far beyond football. The next chapter will take him east to Atlanta, where a new opportunity waits at Clark Atlanta University.
Dame 38 leaves Tempe with his head high and his degree in hand. The evolution continues.

TEMPE, AZ — The 2022 Arizona State Sun Devils season was one of the most turbulent in recent program history. Head coach Herm Edwards was fired three games in, and interim Shaun Aguano guided the team to a 3–9 final record (1–7 Pac-12). Amid the chaos, Damon Williamson (#38) did exactly what he came to Tempe to do: compete.
Williamson appeared in 3 games for the Sun Devils during the 2022 campaign — earning Pac-12 game experience that only a handful of walk-on defensive backs nationwide can claim. Every snap in a Power Five conference game against scholarship athletes is earned. For Dame 38, each one was proof of concept.
| Games Played | Position | Jersey | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | Safety / DB | #38 | Walk-on |
Despite the team's struggles — their worst record since 1946 — Williamson kept his head down and worked. The offseason ahead would bring coaching changes under new head coach Kenny Dillingham, giving Williamson a fresh start heading into 2023.
The grind continues. Dame 38 isn't done in Tempe.

TEMPE, AZ — Heading home to the desert with bigger ambitions, Damon Williamson has walked on at Arizona State University, joining Kenny Dillingham's coaching staff's revamped roster as a defensive back. He'll wear #38 — and with it begins one of the most compelling storylines on the Sun Devils' roster.
Walk-ons don't get scholarships. They don't get recruiting fanfare. What they get is an opportunity — and what they do with it is entirely up to them. For Williamson, the opportunity to compete in the Pac-12, one of college football's elite conferences, is the challenge he's been building toward since his days at Chaparral High School.
"Nobody is going to hand me anything," Williamson said. "That's how I've always operated. You earn your spot."
The 2022 Sun Devils have off-field challenges — head coach Herm Edwards is under pressure after back-to-back underwhelming campaigns — but for Williamson, the locker room and the practice field are what matter. Getting reps against Pac-12 scholarship athletes every single day will accelerate his development more than anything else could.
Dame 38. In the desert. Competing at the highest level. Watch closely.
